Back Country Closure!!!
As of 1:00 pm MST, September 2nd, 2017 the Rocky Mountain Forest District will be Closed, meaning access closure to all Crown Land in this area.
Crown Land- Crown land is land (or land covered by water like rivers or lakes) that is owned by the provincial government- the restriction includes lakes and rivers – This essentially prohibits anglers from fishing and us from operating on our local waters
What is the fine associated with this restriction? People can be issued a violation ticket that carries a fine of $767. If the activity causes or contributes to a wildfire, the person responsible may be ordered to pay all firefighting and associated costs. Enforcement patrols have been stepped up this summer to ensure compliance with this prohibition.
Right now we are working on other angling options. (ie: Walk n Wades - Alberta waters, and Floating the Oldman) We are also working on an outfitter exemption for the closure on front country waters but have not heard if this is possible or if it will happen. At this time all back country trips will be canceled or moved to the above options. Clients can have their trips deferred to a new date this season or next. Please contact us as soon as possible or we will contact you to discuss options. Keep in mind this was very short notice to us and we are in a very challenging situation.
Unfortunately this is the only information we have at this time and the Bulletin and definitions are left to your interpretation and not ours as we have had difficulty getting clarification and questions answered.
Here are some links to follow the situation:
