Pre-Season Update: May 26, 2018
After a slightly above average winter for snow fall and a late spring, the recent warm spells and rains have knocked down a persistent snow pack and we are on track for a good early season on the Elk and its tributaries. I won’t go out and bet on clear water for the June 15th opener, as much can happen before then. For our destination anglers I feel any time after July 1st will be a safe bet on good water and good weather.
Stillwater season has been very good despite the loss at Summit Lake with the winter kill. Darcy, Dylan and Sean are around to guide a day for those that are interested in good sized rainbows on our beautiful mountain lakes. We have a great selection of stillwater patterns and fly lines so if you need to update the fly box stop by the shop.
Our guides and trips for our 2018 season have been filling up very quickly, as we’ve experienced return clients booking earlier than ever before to ensure they got the guides and dates that they wanted. All our regular team is returning aside from Brett who will be a Park Ranger in Kananaskis this summer. If you haven’t booked your trip yet, then you may be limited on options for dates and available waters.
The Fly shop is set up and stocked with new flies, gear from Patagonia, SIMMS, Fishpond, and Scott Rods. We have also gone back with ROSS Reels as we like the direction of ROSS since they were purchased by ABEL. We do our best to keep a good selection of YETI products but they have been very popular and have been moving off the shelves fast. With some new Elk River Hats and shirts we can ensure you look great out on the water!
